Cocktails make cleaning fun!

Sunday was a much more productive day than Saturday. I did a bunch of laundry, washed dishes, cleaned out some cabinets, walked the dogs, cooked dinner and packed my work bags for the week. I feel so accomplished, I just love it when I feel accomplished. What a great feeling!

While I was in the midst of doing laundry and cleaning the cabinets my husband made me a cocktail. I'm now a firm believe that cocktails make cleaning fun! Captain Morgan and Diet Coke. It's my go to drink!

It was time to make dinner. The thing is we really don't have much food in the kitchen but I'm trying to empty our food cabinets so I have to be creative. I opted to try a pasta sauerkraut dish. It actually turned out really good and I'm excited to try out the leftovers. When I make it again I might add some polish sausage to get a little protein in.

Pasta Sauerkraut Goodness
Ingredients:

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions; drain and set aside.
  2. Melt 2 teaspoons butter in large skillet over medium heat add onion cook until tender.
  3. Stir in 2 teaspoons brown sugar and cook for a few seconds until sugar has melted.
  4. Stir in sauerkraut, pasta, and white pepper, gently tossing to distribute ingredients evenly; continue to cook until heated thoroughly.

Dessert was some butterscotch pudding with light cool whip on top!

As I'm typing this I'm watching Sinbad (who is actually funny) comedy show with my husband. A nice end to the weekend:)

Hope everyone out in the blog world had a great weekend!

Question

Have you ever been experimental with a recipe? If yes, what did you make and how did it turn out? (feel free to link in the comments)

  1. I love weekend days when I just bust through my to do list- best feeling ever! The butterscotch pudding looks so so good. I have experimented a bit in the kitchen! I recently made over a creamy pasta sauce recipe to make it vegan and it turned out awesome: http://itzyskitchen.blogspot.com/2010/01/vegan-creamy-tomato-sauce-body-attack.html

  2. I typically try to follow recipes because I don't have that "knack" for cooking. Unless I am trying to turn a recipe meat-free.

But I would agree that typically a cocktail makes anything better! ha

  3. I try to follow recipes, but sometimes I veer off them and add in my own stuff.

  4. I'm not too experimental with recipes... I definitely change up the spices and add the spices I like. I will also add more veggies to a recipe (I love chunks of carrots and potatoes) so I mix it up a bit.

  5. I love Captain Morgan with vanilla diet coke! YUMMM. I like it with reg diet coke too though. It's my favorite drink. I love the idea of sauerkraut and pasta. Sounds really good :)

  6. Once I made baked/stuffed acorn squash without an actual recipe. i called my dad for advice and sort of tossed in ingredients as I went along. It wasn't anything earth shattering, but it was tasty and I was SO proud.

  7. I usually experiment a bit with recipes - except with baking! I'm not experienced enough for that yet!
And I agree, cocktails make cleaning so much better!
